Arthemis from Brazil started a Master in Management (MIM) at IE Business School in 2017. In her first blog, she describes why she decided for this program, the admissions process and her first impression at IE Business School.

Introduction: About Me

My name is Arthemis Siqueira, I am Brazilian and I am 24 years old. I was born and raised in the Marvelous City of Rio de Janeiro and as much as I love my hometown I have always wanted to expand my world. Before coming to IE I studied Tourism & Hospitality and International Relations, which only increased my wish to continue my studies abroad. I believe the size of our personal world is the size of how much we know and that is why I have always sought to go beyond my own limits.

Why did I choose the Master in Management?

I chose the Master in Management because it would open a new world to me, the business world. Having had a very theoretical background of studies I felt the urge to explore a more hands-on learning experience and international exposure.

Why IE Business School?

In my opinion, universities play a decisive role in forming leaders and IE embraces this responsibility to a unique extent. The school welcomes differences and understands that promoting an environment of cultural exchange makes people grow as both individuals and professionals. I believe that environments shape people, and I honestly can’t imagine myself being shaped better anywhere else than at IE.

What’s my impression after a few weeks?

The MIM Experience is similar to diving into a new ocean, every morning you should take a deep breath and dare to explore. There are countless events and activities to explore around campus that give students a well rounded experience: networking events, interesting talks, knowledgeable speakers and project engaging opportunities within different IE departments.

Also, within the program we experience teamwork and the entrepreneurial approach in a way I had never experienced before and therefore we are constantly challenged to give our best.

Of course, being in Madrid also contributes to the positive experience. The city is extremely vivid and welcoming which makes it easy to feel welcomed and at home in no time.

Admissions process: What was the application/admission process like?

The IE admissions process is definitely differentiated. A few days after starting the application process I was contacted by a representative of the Brazilian office who immediately scheduled a Skype call with me. In this Skype conversation I was able to clear all of my doubts and make sure that the MIM was a good fit for my profile. Throughout my application process I had all the support I needed and my emails were replied very quickly. Additionally, right after being accepted I also had the opportunity to have coffee with the IE representative who gave me valuable insights about what I was about to experience at IE. In a few words, the admissions process is really efficient and customized.
