    Hello Thomas ,

My name is Krishnen and i intend to apply to the Vienna school of Business and Economics for the MSc Program in Marketing . However i am not able to find much details regarding the requirement to apply to this course.

I have 4 years of work experience with SAP Labs as a CRM Technical consultant and have completed my BSc in computer Sc (Full time), along with my Master's in S/W Engineering which was a part time program. (The MS degree was sponsored by my company in collaboration with the BITS Pilani University).

My concern here is that i want to know about the job opportunities available in Vienna once i complete my course . What is the scope of this degree as this is an MSc. in marketing and not an MBA?

I have a CGPA of 8+/10 in both my Bachelor and Masters degree. I would like to know what kind of a score i should aim for in GMAT in order to apply to this program and how are the job placement once i complete this course.

    Thanks for helping out.

      Hi there,

      thank you for your question.

However i am not able to find much details regarding the requirement to apply to this course.
You can find a description of the admissions requirements on the WU Master in Marketing admissions page.

My concern here is that i want to know about the job opportunities available in Vienna once i complete my course . What is the scope of this degree as this is an MSc. in marketing and not an MBA?
It is important to understand the difference between a Master in Marketing and an MBA. A Master in Marketing provides you with in-depth knowledge in the field of marketing. You will become an expert and maybe the program allows you even to specialize in a specific sub-field of marketing (e.g. online marketing). Accordingly, your future positions will have to do with marketing issues.
The MBA, in contrast, provides you with general management knowledge. You get an overview on the most important management fields and you prepare as an "allrounder", whether you wokr in consulting, banking, or somewhere else later on.

So far for the general distinction. Now, with respect to the WU I recommend you contacting the school. I would kindly ask them if they could provide you with some information on where the graduates of the MSc in Marketing work after graduating.

      • Which firms?
      • Which positions or tasks?
      • In Austria or abroad?
      • Also: Whether they have experience with people from India and placing them in Austria.

I would like to know what kind of a score i should aim for in GMAT in order to apply to this program.
The WU does require the GMAT but it does not publish the average GMAT score. So, I recommend you to ask for it. "average" does not mean that you need to get the same score. It can be 640 and you can still get in with 590 maybe. But it gives you an indication about what the level is.

In general, I recommend you to target a MINIMUM score of 600. Very good scores are 650 and more and top scores are 700+. But I don't think that you need these scores to get accepted. 600 should be sufficient (my personal intuition...).

      Best wishes
      Thomas

          Hi Krishnen,

I agree with you. The WU Vienna University of Economics and Business is a top school - at least this is what I hear from all sides and what I read.

Now, when it comes specifically to the MSc in Marketing I have no doubt about the quality of the program. But if I were I would do three things just to become more trust in it:

          • I would screen the website for some statistics about the graduates and the employers for THAT specific program
          • I would ask the school about how they perceive the career options that graduates from that program have.
          • I would contact some employers that are important for you (potential future employers) - say that you are interested in their firm but that you plan to do a MSc in Marketing first; and if it would be possible that they let you know about their experience with graduates from that Master.

          Best wishes
          Thomas
