MIM in Oceania and UCD

  • Posted by - kms - on 9 June 2012 - 11:46am

    Hi Thomas,
I have been following your blog and I find it really useful. Keep it going.

My query is about MIM in Oceania.

1.Why most of the students prefer Europe for this course rather than any other continent?
2.I have found some B Schools which matches my interest. They are Waikato Management School(Hamilton), University of Sydney B School and Victoria University Wellington. Waikato has triple accreditations, but Victoria has one. Eventhough I couldn't find these schools in any of the rankings. Since my main concern is to secure a job, will these institutions provide me the platform necessary rather than the European B schools like UCD, Trinity?
    3. How good is the management study options in Oceania?

Please suggest me the best out of the three (in terms of job opportunities).
Study location is not a concern for me.

By the way: I am doing my final year of engineering in India. My cgpa is 7.5 out of 10.
PLEASE ASSIST ME WHETHER THIS CGPA IS ENOUGH TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING B-SCHOOLS.

UCD Michael Smurfit B School, WMS (NZ), Victoria Wellington and University of Sydney B school.

    Kind regards
    KMS.

      Hi KMS,

      thank you for your questions.

1.Why most of the students prefer Europe for this course rather than any other continent?
I don't know statistics about students' preferences but as a matter of fact Masters in Management (MIM) are primarily offered in Europe. In contrast to the MBA, MIM programs are basically a European phenomenon and just because of this you may find many students applying for European MIM programs. Another reason may be that people want to work in Europe. Business Schools may have local and regional contacts to businesses and students may want to take advantage of that.

      2. Accreditations and Career options
Accreditations are just one criterion that guarantees you some minimum quality. It does not mean that the respective school or program provides you with the benefits that YOU are looking for and it does not mean that schools without accreditations are bad. I recommend you having a look on our accreditations article.

As for the career options, you may first clarify what YOU want DIRECTLY AFTER GRADUATION. In which country or area do you want to work, which industry which companies, which function? Depending on this pre-reflection you can approach the schools and check to which degree they will contribute to your personal career goals after graduation.

By the way, please have a look at my comment on Victory University, Wellington - you may find useful information here.

      3. How good is the management study options in Oceania?
The question is too broad to be answered. You will need to narrow down what you are interested in - please confer my comment on question 2 - and then you can INDIVIDUALLY check the Pro's and Con's of a specific school.

PLEASE ASSIST ME WHETHER THIS CGPA IS ENOUGH TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING B-SCHOOLS. UCD Michael Smurfit B School, WMS (NZ), Victoria Wellington and University of Sydney B school.
For these technical questions the best is to contact the schools directly. We have a REQUEST INFO Button for the UCD Michael Smurfit School and your message will be sent directly to them.

As for the other schools, I would visit their websites and send an email to the admission office. By this you will get (1) the information you are looking for (hopefully...) and (2) information on how fast they answer, how polite they are, how respectful, how competent etc. - VERY USEFUL.

      Best wishes
      Thomas
