Hi guys!

We are Ole Westphal and Elias Braun from Germany and we are currently studying for a Master of Science in Management at Kühne Logistics University in Hamburg, Germany. Ole graduated with the German Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering and with the American Bachelor degree in International Business. Elias has just successfully finished his Bachelor studies in Aviation Management in Germany.

Why to do a Master in Management at the KLU?

We decided to go for a Master’s degree at the KLU as we wanted to further shape our international skills, extend our cultural understanding and awareness as well as deepen our economical knowledge. Furthermore, having the opportunity to gain leadership skills necessary for our future professional career was one of the important decision criterions to apply for the Master in Management program at the KLU. We were both fascinated by the young, but already professional and excellent studying environment with top-class professors, small classes (maximum 30 students), and a strong company network.

Truly international and culturally diverse atmosphere

Right from the beginning, the truly international and culturally diverse atmosphere with students from all over the world impressed us. Especially the small study groups as well as the various practice-oriented projects provide us with the best foundation to train our practical and interpersonal skills and make the most out of the studies at the KLU. Moreover, studying at a logistics university gives as the chance to specialize on the field of logistics. To sum up, a Master’s degree from the KLU will perfectly prepare us for our future professional career.

Hamburg: Gateway to the World

Another important decision criterion to apply for the Master of Science in Management at the KLU was - and still is - the exciting, culturally diverse and multifarious city of Hamburg with its endless possibilities to spend and enjoy your leisure time. Particularly, Hamburg’s HafenCity, the Speicherstadt and the huge harbor of Hamburg as Germany's 'Gateway to the World' are located in direct neighborhood of the KLU, making it a unique place to study.

Admission Procedure for the KLU Master in Management

The overall admission process was well structured and the following documents were necessary to hand in (according to the checklist, which you can find on the website of the KLU):

  • Copy of your undergraduate degree certificate
  • Copy of your transcript of records, listing all courses and grades
  • CV / Resume in standard KLU form
  • Statement of Purpose: Two essay questions about your motivation to study at the KLU and your personal strengths and weaknesses
  • Two letters of recommendations (one from a professor of your last university and one from an industry professional)
  • TOEFLS / IELTS score report (not older than two years)

During the whole application process, there was always the possibility to get in contact to the students office, if help was necessary. Additionally, there was also the possibility to ask directly students from the KLU via the ‘Ask a student’ rubric of the KLU website.

The first weeks at the Kuehne Logistics University

The first days at the KLU were stressful and exciting at the same time. On the one hand, there was a two-week pre-course in mathematics with the aim to bring everyone on the same level of knowledge. On the other hand, during these first two weeks we had various opportunities to get in touch with our fellow students, staff members and professors, starting from a guided city tour in Hamburg, a Welcome Day (where basically all necessary information about studying at the KLU and living in Hamburg were provided to us), over a bar hopping event in the Schanzenviertel, up to a high rope course. The first impression of a well-organized university has manifested during these first two weeks of diverse leisure activities and get-together events.

In future entries we will outline the first lecture weeks at the KLU as well as tell you something about the life in Hamburg.
